YEAR IN REVIEW 2005

2005 started with my coming to the end of my third and final year at Korea International School (KIS).  2005 ended with my having successfully completed Old Dominion University's MS Education program.

Habitat for Humanity, Philippines

From Friday, 4 February to Saturday the 12th, I led a group of 59 KIS folks (50 students) to Manila to participate in Habitat for Humanity.  It was one of the longest weeks I've had in a while, but it was certainly one of the most rewarding experiences I have had, ever.  We spent a day touring Manila, four days working for Habitat, and two well-deserved days on the beaches of southern Luzon, the main island, before the flight back to Seoul.  According to the HFH engineer, we built the equivalent of eight homes for those in need.  Good work!

KISMUN to BEIMUN XII

No, it is not some new language.  KIS (Korea International School)'s MUN (Model United Nations organization), which is an organize I supervise, spent five days, 16-21 March,  in Beijing to attend an MUN conference there, hence BEIMUN.  For our day of "cultural events" we toured the Great Wall, Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, and went shopping in the silk Market.  This, all followed by a Peking Duck dinner in a traditionally decorated Chinese restaurant.  We did make it to the Pearl market one night and a Chinese acrobat show another night during the MUN conference.  Beijing was a lot  more dynamic and the Chinese a lot more colorful and friendly than I had anticipated.  Maybe China could be my next choice when applying to international schools.  The food alone would be worth it!

Back in Virginia Beach

Well, thanks to great friends Don & Brooke, I am once again living within a short bike ride of the beach or a five-minute drive to my kayak launch site at Owls Creek.  I intend on spending a year at the beach this time, not necessarily all of it at Don & Brooke's, to complete my MS Education and contemplate my next teaching assignment.  The sound of the waves will make such meditation all the more enjoyable.
